Reports had it that football legend, Steven Gerrard held an exploratory talks with the Football Association over the possibility of joining England's coaching set-up.
In January, the former midfielder accepted a coaching role at Liverpool's academy just 18 months after leaving the club to play for Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy.
On taking the job, Gerrard said: “It feels like completing the circle; returning to the place where professionally it all began.
“However, this isn’t a decision based on emotion – it’s about what I can offer and contribute to Liverpool.”
The Independent claims that Gerrard has already had discussions with senior officials at the FA and could combine his coaching job at the Liverpool academy and also helping Gareth Southgate’s national team set-up.
Dan Ashworth, who is the technical director at the FA, is understood to have been in contact with Steven Gerrard about ways he can help out England at senior level and perhaps even at age-group teams.
The report also states that the FA is keen to give coaching opportunities to some of its ‘Golden Generation’ of players and, with 114 caps to his name, Gerrard fits the bill.
